This fall I am offering three six-week classes meant to inspire new work, foster creative community, and teach craft elements of poetry. And, after this past (%$#^!) year, also meant to provide two hours of creative oasis.
Taking inspiration from the season we will look at poems that are written as spells, inspired by the Grimm tales, have an incantatory quality, or explore witches/ghosts and write about what haunts us. There is a world of occult-poetics and we may dabble there too. As always, we will try to figure out how poems do what they do — thematically and technically — and then try this ourselves. I view the workshop space as one in which to build community, gather inspiration, and deepen practice with this craft.
Classes will meet:
Mondays, 4:00-6:00 p.m. (PST) on October 18, 25, Nov. 1, (skip), 15, (skip), 29, Dec. 6. $295.00.
Wednesdays, 7:00-9:00 p.m. (PST) on October 20, 27, Nov. 3 (skip), 17, (skip), Dec 1, 8. $295.00.
During these past few months I’ve enjoyed coming together with others (virtually) to write together in community. On Friday mornings from 10:00-11:30 (PST) we will come together with the goal of reading a poem, writing to a prompt and then sharing our work. This is less a workshop than an opportunity to write with others and briefly hear our words. The dates will be: October 22, 29, Nov. 5, (skip), 19th (skip), Dec. 3, 10. $150.00.
